The University Publishing Center began its activities in 1980 under its original title, the “Committee for the Translation, Authorship, and Editing of University Textbooks,” under the management of Dr. Nasrollah Pourjavadi. The establishment of this body came at a time when Iran’s higher education system faced an urgent need for reliable, standardized academic resources written in or translated into Persian, and when a serious gap was felt in the translation, authorship, and scholarly editing of university-level texts. The primary objective of founding this center was to organize and improve the production and publication of academic books and to enhance the scientific and linguistic quality of educational resources.

In 1983, the University Press Center formally consolidated its activities and continued its work as an institution affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. This official status paved the way for the expansion of its scope of activities, greater structural coherence, and broader collaboration with university professors, researchers, and specialists across various academic disciplines. From its early years, the Center played an influential role in standardizing academic texts and promoting scholarly Persian through the use of expert editorial boards and professional editors.

Over more than four decades of continuous activity, the University Press Center has become one of the most active and reputable publishing institutions in Iran. By publishing hundreds of titles in diverse fields such as the humanities, basic sciences, engineering, and other academic disciplines, it has made a significant contribution to providing educational and research resources for universities and academic institutions. Scientific rigor, high editorial standards, responsiveness to contemporary educational needs, and adherence to professional publishing principles are among the defining characteristics of the Center’s publications.

Today, the University Press Center holds a distinguished position among academic publishers in Iran and is widely recognized as a leading authority in the production and dissemination of scholarly books. Its role in enhancing the quality of higher education, strengthening Persian as a language of scholarship, and supporting academic research has established it as one of the key pillars of scientific publishing in the country.
